Yes. Alongside roughly $125 billion in government funding distributed each year, Australian NFPs can draw on a deep pool of philanthropic and corporate funding — foundations like FRRR, corporate programs like NAB Foundation community grants, and state community benefit funds. The hard part isn't whether funding exists — it's finding the programs your organisation qualifies for and applying before the round closes.
Not always — and this surprises many committees. Plenty of programs only ask for an ABN or an incorporation certificate, and several major community grants explicitly state DGR status is not required. Some philanthropic foundations do require DGR item 1 endorsement, so it varies by funder — the grant's eligibility criteria will say, and Grantiv shows you those criteria for each match.
Incorporated associations are eligible for most Australian community funding — many programs name “incorporated organisation with an ABN” as the requirement, not registered charity status. If your group is unincorporated, some funders accept an application auspiced by an incorporated organisation acting on your behalf.
Government grants (federal, state and local) tend to run in defined rounds with formal acquittal and reporting requirements. Philanthropic and corporate funders — foundations, banks, retailers — often run smaller, more frequent programs with lighter paperwork, and some accept applications year-round or monthly. A healthy funding strategy usually mixes both, and Grantiv matches across all of them.
No. Unlike a loan, a grant is non-dilutive, non-repayable funding — you don't repay it and you don't give up equity, as long as you meet the program's conditions and reporting requirements.
Yes — tell Grantiv what you want to fund and what your organisation does. Your strongest current match is shown immediately. A work email reveals the remaining redacted matches and keeps the search on file.
Grantiv reads what your organisation actually does — your state, type, size and what you need funded — and matches you against current Australian grant programs, scoring each on how well it fits. Instead of scrolling hundreds of listings, you see the handful that are genuinely relevant to your cause.
Yes. A large share of Australian community funding is deliberately designed for small, volunteer-run organisations — programs like Volunteer Grants ($1,000–$5,000) and FRRR's small community grants exist specifically so a group without paid staff can still fund equipment, training and local projects. Small grants also tend to have the simplest applications.
Constantly. Philanthropic programs like FRRR's Strengthening Rural Communities run multiple rounds a year, some corporate programs award monthly, and government community rounds open and close on their own schedules. Our free fortnightly email tracks what's currently open for NFPs.
Grantiv helps you find the grants that fit, and the Application Writer helps you draft the application with the grant criteria in view. You stay in control and submit through the official government portal — always confirm the current round, eligibility and deadlines on the grant's official page before applying.
